From the end of 2026, only deforestation-free products will be allowed into the EU market — covering soya bean, beef, palm oil, wood, cocoa, coffee, and rubber, the core of Mercosur's agricultural export mix. This is not a future risk. In May 2026, the EU suspended imports of several Brazilian animal products after determining Brazil no longer complied with EU antimicrobial standards for food-producing animals — a determination Brazil disputes. That dispute is exactly what happens when a compliance question has no shared field-level evidence standard underneath it.
