What data we collect and why

Comments

When you leave a comment on the site, we collect the name, email address, and any optional website URL you provide, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This information is used to manage comments and detect spam.

Your email address may be passed to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile image associated with it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. If you have a Gravatar, your profile image will be visible publicly alongside your comment.

If you choose to save your details for future comments, a cookie will be stored in your browser for one year. This is for your convenience only and contains no sensitive data.

Comment content and associated metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and moderated efficiently. You may request deletion of your comment data at any time (see Your Rights below).

Contact form

If you submit a message via our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not shared with third parties or used for marketing purposes.

Cookies

This site sets cookies for the following purposes:

  • Session and login cookies — if you log in to the site, cookies are set to maintain your session. These expire within two days, or two weeks if you select “Remember Me.”
  • Comment cookies — if you leave a comment and opt in, your name and email are saved in cookies for one year to avoid re-entry on future visits.
  • Analytics cookies — see Google Analytics section below.
  • Translation cookies — see GTranslate section below.

Media uploads

If you upload images to the site, please ensure they do not contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract any such data from uploaded images.

Third-party services

Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics collects anonymised data including pages visited, time on site, browser type, and approximate geographic location. This data is processed by Google and subject to Google’s privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

This site contains links to books available on Amazon. Clicking these links will take you to Amazon’s website, where Amazon’s own privacy policy applies. We do not use Amazon affiliate tracking links.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes. Data may be processed by the third-party services listed above (Google Analytics) in accordance with their respective privacy policies.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email as a standard WordPress security measure.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Where your data is stored

This website is hosted on a server located in Singapore (HostArmada). Data submitted through this site is processed and stored in Singapore unless passed to third-party services (Google, GTranslate) which may process data in other jurisdictions.

How long we retain your data

Comment data and associated metadata are retained indefinitely unless you request deletion. Contact form submissions are retained only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry. Analytics data is retained in accordance with Google’s standard retention settings.

Your rights

You have the right to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, or to request deletion of your personal data where we are not legally required to retain it. To make any such request, contact us via the contact form on this site.
