Ella confecciona ropa preciosa y la vende con pérdidas.
She wakes up at five. Before the children are up. Before the heat comes.
Ella ya está en la mesa. Tela sujeta con alfileres. Máquina en marcha.
She learned to sew from her mother. She is good at it. Better than good.
"Precioso. ¿Cuánto cuesta?"
And then the negotiation starts. And she gives in. Because she needs the sale.
By the time the dress is finished, packed, and sent — she has earned less than the cost of the fabric.
She does not know this. She priced by feeling. What seems fair. What the customer will accept.
This is not a story about a woman who cannot sew. She can sew. That is not the problem.
The problem
Ella compra la tela sola, por tramos, al precio de venta al público.
Ella encuentra clientes uno por uno, a través de su página personal.
She competes with women on the next street doing exactly the same thing. She sells to neighbours who have no money.
Está sola.
¿Qué cambia cuando diez mujeres se encuentran?
They buy fabric together — wholesale price. The cost drops before a single stitch is made.
One coordinator finds the orders none of them could find alone. School uniforms. Corporate orders. A stall where customers have money.
The price is no longer set by feeling. It is set by arithmetic.
Below that number, she is not selling. She is donating her labour.
Above the floor — she competes on what she is actually good at. Design. Fit. Finishing. The things her customers were already telling her were beautiful.
The Facebook page becomes the shop front. The cooperative is the factory behind it.
¿Cada miembro está ganando más por pieza que cuando vendía sola?
If yes — keep going. If no — find out why before the orders stop.
