A seamstress at her machine in early morning light, fabric pinned before her

MetriqOne · ASEAN

Ze maakt prachtige kleding en verkoopt die met verlies.

She wakes up at five. Before the children are up. Before the heat comes.

Ze zit al aan tafel. De stof is vastgespeld. De machine draait.

She learned to sew from her mother. She is good at it. Better than good.

"Prachtig. Hoeveel kost het?"

And then the negotiation starts. And she gives in. Because she needs the sale.

By the time the dress is finished, packed, and sent — she has earned less than the cost of the fabric.

She does not know this. She priced by feeling. What seems fair. What the customer will accept.

This is not a story about a woman who cannot sew. She can sew. That is not the problem.

The problem

Ze koopt de stof los – één stuk per keer, tegen de winkelprijs.

Ze vindt klanten één voor één via haar persoonlijke pagina.

She competes with women on the next street doing exactly the same thing. She sells to neighbours who have no money.

Ze is alleen.

Wat verandert er als tien vrouwen elkaar vinden?

They buy fabric together — wholesale price. The cost drops before a single stitch is made.

One coordinator finds the orders none of them could find alone. School uniforms. Corporate orders. A stall where customers have money.

The price is no longer set by feeling. It is set by arithmetic.

Added together — that is the floor

Below that number, she is not selling. She is donating her labour.

Above the floor — she competes on what she is actually good at. Design. Fit. Finishing. The things her customers were already telling her were beautiful.

The Facebook page becomes the shop front. The cooperative is the factory behind it.

Werkt het?

Verdient elk lid per stuk meer dan wanneer ze het alleen zou verkopen?

If yes — keep going. If no — find out why before the orders stop.

MetriqOne Houdt het bij. Papier en pen. Geen internet nodig.
